How to ask for a date in Japanese, Tokyo vs Osaka

When we ask somebody for a date,

in our standard Japanese

we say

‘kondo shokujidemo ikagadesuka?’

「こんどしょくじでもいかがですか?」

which means

‘Why don’t we go out for dinner sometime?’

in a polite way.

And in a casual way,

we would say

‘kondo gohan ikohyo’

「こんどごはんいこうよ」

On the other hand in Osaka,

people traditionally say

‘ne-chan chaa shibakahen?’

「ねーちゃん、ちゃーしばかへん?」

which is a very very casual way to say.

That’s even a bit rude.

But this is more common way to say it nowadays,

‘meshidemo ikahen?’

「めしでもいかへん?」

which also is a casual way,

but it’s not too rude.
